Getting indexed on Google is one of the most effective ways of getting free traffic to your website.

Google Search Console’s URL Inspection tool is the fastest way to inform Google that you have new or updated content that the search engine should crawl and index.

Here’s how to submit a URL for page indexing:

1. Sign in to your Google Search Console account
2. Select a property.
3. Copy the URL you want to submit.
4. Paste the URL into the upper part of the platform.
5. Check if the URL is indexable by clicking the TEST LIVE URL button.
6. Click the REQUEST INDEXING button.
7. All done!

I’ve been a volunteer board member with the BC Apparel & Gear Association for 2 years now. Part of my role is to help shape the future and be the “voice” for the fashion, apparel and gear industry in British Columbia.

In 1995 I started my education journey in fashion in BC that then led me to work in the east coast for over 15 years. I’ve held many different roles in the fashion industry working at companies in Canada and the US. As well as having my own clothing design company for over 10 years. My job as an entrepreneur gave me the flexibility to relocate back to BC in 2010.

I started my second business Chase Your Dreams Consulting in 2018, which is what I do currently as a fashion SEO consultant. My other way of contributing to my industry is through teaching part time. I developed 2 courses and have been teaching in the fashion design program at LaSalle College Vancouver for almost 3 years. Now I feel I’ve come full circle. Having started in fashion as a student and now I’m teaching the next generation of our industry.

To me it made sense to be part of the BCAG. I joined as a way to give back to the industry that I’ve been working in my entire career. Apparel is the fourth largest component of manufacturing in British Columbia. There’s so much opportunity to grow together as an industry. Whether you like it or not, nothing ever stays the same in e-commerce.

The rules of content marketing are changing. What should you focus on in order to make the most IMPACT with your content?

Let’s begin by looking at some current data around content marketing:

In the past, the web pages appearing on the first page of Google used to have about 2300 words or more. But more recently, the top Google results had 1600 words or less.

As our average attention spans are becoming shorter, so are content word counts.

So does this mean that we should stop writing long-form content?

Not exactly. It really depends on quality. As much as our attention spans are shrinking, our brains are also starving for useful and original content that we can’t find anywhere else.

Here’s a general rule of thumb in light of our current situation:

Use only the amount of words that are necessary:
-If you’re able to craft a blog article in fewer words but still able to fully present your ideas, facts and stories in an engaging way—go for it.
-BUT if you write a piece of content that’s longer, AND it’s a home run on delivering content that keeps your audience reading and soaking it from one paragraph to the next—that’s great too!

Google Search Engine rewards high quality, useful content by ranking those pages higher—even if it’s on the longer word count side.
